Eusoh Pet Insurance Review 2024: Affordable Community-Based Pet Insurance Alternative

Lisa Scott

According to Eusoh, traditional pet insurance misses the mark completely. They built a subscription, community-based pet health plan that reimburses for medical, routine, illness, and wellness expenses. Once you submit an invoice from a veterinarian, each Eusoh member contributes a fraction of the cost, which reduces everyone’s pets’ medical expenses and saving more money than regular pet insurance.

In depth review on Eusoh

If you are keeping up to date with preventative care for your pet and are struggling to justify the pricey options that pet insurance companies offer, Eusoh can be a great option for you. Keep in mind, members should budget $65 per month per pet.

An additional perk is the transparency the company offers, so you can see where your money is going. Eusoh only makes money from the $17 membership fee, so it does not have ulterior motives to deny claims (unless they are not expressly covered).

Initially, there is a 30 day waiting period until coverage is active. After that, you are locked into a year-long subscription. The penalty for breaking that subscription early is your $48 deposit per pet. Eusoh reimburses at around 80% after the member reaches the annual deductible of $250.

Once signed up, a new member must apply to join the community of Eusoh pet members. One of the perks is that you are able to see the cost-sharing average of each group for the previous 6 months before applying. The reimbursed expenses of the community are added up each month and equally distributed to its members. Reimbursements are maxed at $8,500 per pet per year. This annual maximum is comparable to traditional pet health plans.

Eusoh is best for

  • Affordable pet healthcare. Insurance premiums can be very expensive. Uninsured pets can be even more draining on your finances. Eusoh was founded in the hopes that you will not have to choose between your financial situation or your pet’s health (or life). Joining the Eusoh community is only $17 per month per pet. Monthly payments can fluctuate but the max you’ll pay is $65/month. This is much lower than conventional pet insurance that covers accident, illness and wellness.
  • Unused contributions roll over: Eusoh is the only plan where members pay for what is needed. Since it follows an innovative community cost-sharing model, any unused contributions are rolled over the next month and credited back to the community, decreasing next month’s payment.
  • Community-based health sharing plan: Pet parents directly fund each other’s vet expenses.

Eusoh benefits

  • Save and help others save. By sharing veterinary bills amongst all of its members, Eusoh is able to crowdsource a little bit from each member so that all can benefit. On top of that, Eusoh guarantees that your bill will never pass your maximum monthly payment (currently the maximum monthly payment is $65 per pet).
  • See your own veterinarian: Since Eusoh is based on a crowdsourced funding business model instead of working out deals with certain providers, there are no “in/out of network” constraints to services you need.

Eusoh drawbacks

  • Upfront costs for medical expenses. If Fido ate some rat poison and you rush him to the pet emergency room, you would have to shell out the money on the spot for the veterinarian to treat him. There is no talking to the insurance company, settling the accounts, and then getting billed afterwards. You will need to have some cash in reserve to use this service and then wait up to 30 days for the reimbursement.
  • Only long term subscription option available. If you are looking for something short term until you move, you should be aware that Eusoh only offers year long subscriptions. Canceling before the year is up will result in your deposit being forfeited.

Follow the application process on the Eusoh website or call them on their customer service number. You’ll need to create an account on the website, and provide information about you and your pet. You won’t be charged until your request to join a group is approved. Pet parents who still have questions can schedule a no-obligation informational call.

Once your account is active, you can join a group or create your own. Expense sharing begins the day you join your group.

Fees and coverage

We have talked about how cost-effective Eusoh is for those looking to save on insurance for their pets without canceling coverage altogether, but now we can dive into the numbers. To sign up you will need to pay the following. Keep in mind that each pet is considered a new subscription. This pricing reflects a single pet being signed up:

  • An initial deposit of $48.
  • The first month’s payment of $17.
  • In total, $65 for the first month, per pet signed up.

The $48 is used as a deposit to front any shared expenses by other members that may pop up that month. The user can select whichever veterinarian they want and their costs will be reimbursed according to Eusoh terms. If the shared expenses exceed the $48 deposit, you will not be charged further for that month. During the next billing cycle, whatever was used from the deposit as a shared expense will be refilled.

Eusoh claims that some of the best insurance analysts looking at extensive market research data have validated their modeling software, which indicates that the highest a member will pay on shared expenses is $48. Most months will see a significantly lower number for shared expenses. This means your monthly cost will never exceed $65 ($17 monthly membership fee plus $48 shared expense deposit).

Currently, Eusoh only covers cats and dogs.

Eusoh is not technically an insurance provider so it has not been rated by third-party analysis firms. It does have a profile with the Better Business Bureau and has an A+ rating. Only one complaint has been filed since it went into business, and this was sided in their favor after review.
